Description

Deep crimson warmth, worn back in places as if by a century of footsteps, makes this red distressed Persian-style rug the heart of a snug living room or book-lined study. Florence takes a classic all-over Persian-style pattern and washes it so the colour breaks up into soft, patchy clearings. The flat, finely detailed pile has a gentle sheen that catches lamplight, and it comes in five sizes, including a hallway runner.

The all-over Persian-style pattern is deliberately broken up, with patchy, erased-looking areas where the design fades back to the ground, and a charcoal border keeps it all anchored. This saturated crimson loves dark wood, antique brass and deep green or inky blue walls. Lay 200 x 290 cm under a six-seater dining table, choose 160 x 230 cm in front of a leather Chesterfield, or send the 60 x 230 cm runner down a Victorian hallway.

Care

Vacuum regularly on a low setting; blot spills straight away and spot clean with mild detergent; professional clean when needed.

Tip: use an anti-slip underlay on hard floors. It keeps the rug flat and makes vacuuming easier.

Good to know

Heirloom questions

What size vintage rug do I need for my living room?

For most living rooms, 160 x 230 cm sits under the coffee table with the front legs of the sofa on the rug. Larger open-plan spaces or corner sofas suit 200 x 290 cm. In bedrooms, 150 x 200 cm works across the foot of a double bed, and the 60 x 230 cm runner fits most hallways.

How do I clean and care for an Heirloom rug?

Vacuum regularly on a low setting without a beater bar or rotating brush, working with the direction of the pile. Blot spills straight away with a clean white cloth, then spot clean gently with cold water and a little mild detergent. Avoid soaking or scrubbing, and use a professional rug cleaner for deeper cleaning.

Will the rug shed, and how thick is the pile?

Heirloom rugs have a flat, low and finely detailed pile, so they sit neatly under furniture and most doors. Like many new rugs, they can release a few loose fibres at first; this settles with regular vacuuming. The washed, distressed look is part of the design rather than a sign of wear.

Can I use an Heirloom rug on a hard floor or with underfloor heating?

Yes, they look lovely on boards, tiles and stone. On hard floors we recommend a good-quality rug underlay to help keep the rug in place and add comfort underfoot. With underfloor heating, choose an underlay made for that purpose and check your heating manufacturer's guidance first.

How much is delivery, and can I return my rug?

Delivery is free to UK mainland addresses. If your rug is not quite right, you can return it within 30 days and we cover the return postage, so you can see how the colour and sheen look in your own light before you decide.
